TAX...In most cases, it’s a dreaded word.
But, an increase in the tax on tobacco products actually saves lives and saves money.
Wyoming’s cigarette tax rate is currently one of the lowest in the nation at just 60 cents per pack. An additional $1 per pack cigarette tax increase would generate 21 million a year in new revenue and prevent about 2,300 premature deaths caused by smoking-related illnesses. 4,000 current adult smokers would quit and $1.3 million would be saved over the next five years from fewer heart attacks and strokes caused by smoking.
