Our top priority is for the Legislature to include funding in the state budget for high schools to continue implementing CPR training required for students. With the bill filing deadline behind us, we have a couple additional issues we'd like your help on.

  • AEDS in Schools: We're excited Senator Cleo Fields has filed Senate Bill 12 to increase access to AEDs in elementary, middle, and high schools. The bill passed the Senate Education Committee this week and now heads to the Senate Floor.
  • Cigar Tax: We're watching Senate Bill 224 by Senator Robert Mills that would lower the cigar tax from 20% to 8%.We might need your help asking legislators to vote against the bill. Lowering the cigar tax would make cigars more accessible, thus likely increasing tobacco use, is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke. The bill is waiting to make its first stop in the Senate Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Committee.
