On August 8, the East Baton Rouge Metro Council voted 10-2 in favor of Mayor Broome's MOVEBR road plan. It is a 30-year half-cent sales tax that would provide funds to construct and improve public roads and streets, including sidewalks, crosswalks, and bike paths. For example, you'd pay 25 cents on a $50 purchase. Groceries and prescription drugs would not applicable to the tax.

The road plan now heads to East Baton Rouge Parish voters on the December 8th ballot. If passed, the tax is expected to generate $192 million for road projects across the parish.
The American Heart Association supports MOVEBR, so residents and visitors alike can be one step closer to having streets that are designed and built for the safety of all travelers. This includes those who walk, bike, use a wheelchair, use public transportation, and drive.
