Kicking Off Smoke Free Little Rock!

The Hillcrest Fountain, a popular Little Rock watering hole, went Smoke-Free for the first time in its history to help kick off the Smoke Free Little Rock campaign - and supporters turned out to show them that going smoke-free is GOOD for business!

The Fountain isn't all that different from most dives in Little Rock; the dark lighting, pool tables, witty graffiti... and a constant haze of cigarette smoke are familiar in many of our local hangouts.  But this past Wednesday, the Fountain changed things up and moved smoking to their outdoor patio as Smoke Free Little Rock supporters gathered inside to enjoy some local music, grab a beer, and talk about how excited they were that the noticeably cleaner air in the bar might someday soon be the norm.

The American Heart Association is proud to be a part of the Smoke Free Little Rock coalition, who have made it their goal to get the Little Rock Board of Directors to pass an ordinance protecting all of Little Rock's workers from the dangers of second-hand smoke, including those at bars.  “This is really not about anti-smoking, it’s about our workers," said Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola, who attended the kickoff event.  If you would like to help the campaign, it's easy!  Just text "SMOKEFREE" to 46839 and follow the prompts to email the Little Rock Board of Directors and let them know that no one should have to choose between their health and a paycheck.
