Legislation to extend Medicaid postpartum coverage for women passed as well as funding for early childhood education programs (Head Start) and pre-elementary grants. These policies are critically important. Extended coverage of postpartum services ensures moms and babies to have the best possible start in life. Ensuring the expectant parent has access to care during pregnancy and for the first year after giving birth is essential for providing a healthy and successful start. Head Start programs promote school readiness for children in low-income families by offering educational, nutritional, health, social, and other services and pre-elementary grants promote school readiness and positive outcomes for participating children.

Now…we await the Governor’s signature on the bills.
