We want to invite you to participate in our Heart at the Capitol event to advocate for heart and stroke issues on March 6. On this day, volunteers come together to learn about our issues, network with other volunteers, heart survivors and caregivers; and meet with elected officials. As a constituent, your voice can make a big difference with lawmakers so we hope you can join us at the Capitol on March 6, 2017!

We are focusing on three issues this year that we believe will help build a healthier future for Oregon’s children:

  • Tobacco to 21
Research shows that 95 percent of users start before 21. If we can stop people from ever starting this deadly habit, we can improve the health of Oregon and save Oregon money in long term health costs.

  • Ensure Physical Education
Research has shown the children with access to quality physical education are not only healthier but do better in school. Help ensure Oregon school kids are getting the recommended daily minutes of physical education in elementary and middle school.

  • Securing Funding for the Safe Routes to School Program
This program helps ensure that children in Oregon have a safe way to walk and bike to school. Something as simple as walking to school every day isn’t a safe option for many families in Oregon. Too many communities lack safe sidewalks, bikeways and crosswalks.

No prior experience is required as we will provide training opportunities on the issues.

Thanks to advocates like you we have passed life-saving legislation like CPR in schools and heart screenings for newborns and we hope with your help to add to that list.  On March 6 your voice can truly make a difference!
