In 2020, California overwhelmingly passed Senate Bill 793 which is a bipartisan, landmark law that will protect kids by ending the sale of menthol and candy-flavored tobacco products in our state.

Since then, tobacco companies have spent millions to delay the law, with the goal of stopping it permanently by placing it on the November ballot. Big Tobacco knows hiding dangerous and addictive nicotine products behind candy flavors preferred by kids is a sure way to get the next generation hooked into a lifetime of addiction. And the numbers speak for themselves:
- Over 2 million middle and high school students now use e-cigarettes
- In California, almost all high school e-cigarette users use flavored products
- 4 out of 5 kids who have used tobacco started with a flavored product
Delaying the implementation of this new bipartisan law will cost Californians at least $800 MILLION in tobacco-related health care costs. That’s why we are hoping that you will join us as we build a movement to vote “YES on 31” in November. Whether it’s flavored e-cigarettes, menthol cigarettes or flavored cigars, the tobacco industry has used flavored products to hook young people for decades and now is our opportunity to pass legislation that will send a message Big Tobacco.
Please start sharing the word of “Yes on 31” in the coming months with your friends, family, and community! If you would like to get involved, please email Josh Brown or join the supporter list on VoteYeson31.org.
