Hi everyone, my name is Alex Hamasaki, and I'm so excited to be joining the American Heart Association as Washington's new Government Relations Director. I look forward to work on important issues like health equity, tobacco control, and increasing access to health care.
Prior to coming to the Heart Association, I worked at Swedish Hospital, where I had the opportunity to see first-hand how our healthcare laws and support system helped - and failed - Washingtonians. I volunteered with the Heart Associations' Young Professionals, and later with the American Cancer Society - Cancer Action Network as one of their district leads. Through both experiences, I had a chance to advocate for raising the tobacco purchase age to 21 (Tobacco to 21). I later moved on to work as Rep. My-Linh Thai's legislative assistant, where, to my great excitement, I was able to watch Tobacco to 21 pass. I also had the chance to work on several other healthcare issues that were near and dear to my heart. I'm very excited to continue working to create healthier lives and elevate our communities here in Washington State through my new position with the Heart Association.
Feel free to reach out to me about anything - my favorite ice cream recipes, great hiking spots in Washington, how legislative session works, opportunities to create change, etc. I look forward to working alongside each and every one of you.
