We love our state and are proud to call ourselves Oklahomans. My family has lived in Oklahoma for most of my life and I have spent time lately thinking a lot about the health of the generation I am raising; my two sons.
Last week, I took part in multiple conversations around an issue that has the potential to impact their lives and the lives of other children in Oklahoma. If you could take action to improve the lives of Oklahoma's youngest citizens and others, would you?
Right now, the Oklahoma Legislature is considering a bill that would raise the cigarette tax $1.50 per pack. This tax will decrease smoking and greatly improve the health of Oklahomans. Experts believe this bill could prevent over 28,000 Oklahoma kids from becoming adult smokers and cause over 30,000 adults to quit. Revenue generated through the tax will go directly toward funding health care throughout Oklahoma, as outlined in House Bill 1841 by Representative Leslie Osborn.
Higher cigarette taxes will save lives and produce much needed revenue for Oklahoma.
