Hands-Only CPR Training

Did you know you can help save a life in just two easy steps? The American Heart Association teamed up with DC City Council to hold an event on Freedom Plaza to bring awareness to CPR and train community members how to save a life by learning Hands-Only CPR.

Each participant was given a Family & Friends® CPR Anytime® Personal Learning Program that allows anyone to learn the core skills of CPR in just 20 minutes using their own personal kit. The kit contains everything needed to learn basic CPR, AED skills and choking relief anywhere, from the comfort of your home to a large group setting. Participants were encouraged to go home and teach a family member or friend CPR.

Councilmember Yvette Alexander presented an official resolution to AHA and other key community members recognizing June 3-7 as CPR Week. In her press conference, Councilmember Alexander stressed the critical importance of learning CPR emphasizing how easy it was to learn to save a life. DC Fire Captain Jonathan Streat shared his personal experience with CPR. Captain Streat collapsed while on duty when his coworkers quickly performed CPR successfully resuscitating him. Thanks to their prompt action, Captain Streat is healthy today.

In addition to teaching community members CPR, and with the help of All Heart Training, a flash mob was organized to the famous disco hit, “Stayin’ Alive.” Watch a clip below.
