I know it is hard to find the motivation to stay active during all of this craziness, but I have found some super fun ways to workout at home. If you visit the American Heart Association website, you will find so many different ways to get up and get moving at home. Even moving a little bit each day will help you reach your long-term goals! Did you know that 10 minutes of stretching is like walking the length of a football field? Amazing, right? You never have to leave your home and you have accomplished so much!
For Move More month there are live Zoom classes for you to attend to get moving in the comfort of your living room! (link here) If you miss the live Zoom workouts, there are some pre-recorded videos to watch at any time. My favorite, so far, is the lower body tone and sculpt workout! I love that the AHA has come up with such creative workouts to keep everyone healthy and happy! By visiting this website, you will find that there truly is a workout for every member of your family.
Have you developed a case of binge-guilt? I have found myself watching T.V. way too much during this time at home! But, that’s perfectly okay because there are even workouts for us bingers. You can do “sofa stretches” and “loungewear lunges” to take a break from your favorite Netflix series! How fun?!
If you are having trouble getting your family up and moving, no worries! There are many ways to motivate everyone in your family to stay active. Choose toys for your children that encourage physical activity, put the screen time on hold, and play actively with your pets! These are all super fun ways to ensure that your family is staying healthy at home. I personally love to make my chores more active and fun by playing some music while I do them! It is such a good way to motivate yourself to get up and have fun doing it.
Have you ever heard of the 10-Minute Home Workout? Well, this workout is perfect for those of us who are working from home right now, but don’t have a lot of time to spare! The 10-Minute Home Workout is a great mix of cardio and muscle-building exercises. While taking a break from my schoolwork, I completed the workout; and it felt so nice to get moving!
If you’re anything like me, you've been spending a lot of time on the couch lately. Luckily, with tips and workouts the American Heart Association, you can have fun while staying active! There's no better time than now to begin your workout routine! Make sure you look out for all of the upcoming zoom workouts on the American Heart Association’s website.
If you’re new to my blog, I want to invite you to join me as an advocate with the American Heart Association. We all have the power to make a difference by speaking out for policies that help build healthier communities and healthier lives. For more than 30 years, You’re the Cure – the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's grassroots network – has been doing just that. We’re a community of fathers and mothers, neighbors and friends, researchers and caregivers, passionate about an America that’s free of heart disease and stroke. Learn more, join us HERE.
One more thing...You can take action today to advocate for policy which will help everyone MOVE MORE! Many people are walking, biking and rolling to safely exercise during #COVID19 so it's important that our infrastructure & funding supports safe opportunities for active transportation. Take a moment to ask Congress to include TAP in recovery efforts! Take action HERE.
That’s all for me this month, guys! I hope you all are staying happy, safe, and healthy (and active, of course)! My heart and prayers go out to all of those affected by COVID-19. I know we will all get through this together! Thank you all for reading this month and I’ll talk to you all in May!
All my love,
Hannah Walker
