Good News for Women's Hearts in Rhode Island

A couple of years ago, the American Heart Association worked with the General Assembly to establish a Cardiovascular Screening and Risk Reduction Pilot Program for low-income, uninsured and underinsured women in Rhode Island, modeled on the CDC WISEWOMAN ProgramThanks to the outreach of our You’re the Cure advocates, we have been able to secure modest state funding to continue the pilot program for the past three years.

We are happy to share that as a result of the pilot program – and the need it demonstrated – the RI Department of Health has been awarded a significant federal grant from the CDC to expand the WISEWOMAN program in our state.  Now, even more women will receive vital preventive services and lifestyle interventions that target poor nutrition, physical inactivity, and smoking.

Thank you for supporting this important initiative!  We look forward to working with our partners at the RI Department of Health to help more women live a heart-healthy life!
