On June 19, 2018, years’ worth of work and dedication on behalf of the Breatheasy Augusta coalition paid off as the Augusta Commission voted 6-3-1 in favor of adopting a smoke-free ordinance to make all public workplaces smoke-free. The ordinance will take effect on January 1, 2019.

This issue has been one of contention since at least 2012 with advocates working tirelessly to stress the science and positive public health impact that the policy would have on Augusta-Richmond County. To that end we thank our colleagues in the Mid-Atlantic Affiliate for their leadership and good work on the Breatheasy Augusta campaign, and we extend our thanks to each and every You're the Cure advocate who had a hand in making this a successful campaign.
