Funding Health Equity in Austin

Your zip code shouldn’t determine your health. The City of Austin budget process is happening now and Austinites have the opportunity to invest in improving equitable access to health care for ALL in Austin by funding the proposed Health Equity and Quality of Life Direct Service initiative. If you live in Austin or have friends who do, we could use your help!

The money from the Direct Service initiative would fund six full time employees in Austin Public Health's Office of Health Equity who would help members of the African-American, Asian-American and Hispanic communities with access to healthcare, helping to reduce costly chronic diseases and save lives. You can help make it happen by sending a letter to Mayor Steve Adler and your City Council Member to let them know you value health equity.

Here's what's happening in the next four weeks:
First public hearing on proposed budget - Wednesday, August 22
Second public hearing - Thursday, August 30
First reading of budget - Tuesday, September 11
Second reading of budget - Wednesday, September 12
Third and final reading and adoption of budget - Thursday, September 13

We'll keep you updated on what's happening throughout the process and let you know how you can help. Today, please send an email to Mayor Adler and your Council Member by clicking here.
