Fun at the Albuquerque Heart Walk

Last month, the advocacy team headed to Hoffmantown Church for the 2018 Heart Walk for the first time in the new location. Advocates collected support cards from the crowd and spoke with attendees about heart-healthy policies like expanding the number of PE minutes in schools and increasing access to healthy food.

There was a lot of support at the heart walk to expand PE in schools to make sure kids get a healthy start to life. A 2015 publication from Active Living Research reported that regular physical activity can improve kids’ attention and memory, which are the foundation for learning. In addition, physically active children tend to have better school attendance.

In spite of the heat, advocates and attendees had a great time at the event and enjoyed walking the route that included trails and beautiful New Mexico scenery.
