Thanks to the efforts of advocates like you, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is listening to us and wants to limit the sale and access to certain flavored tobacco products like e-cigarettes.

But that’s the not all. The FDA also plans to take steps to ban the sale of menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars!
That is a significant development and it would not have been possible without the FDA hearing from advocates like you. Earlier in 2018, You’re the Cure asked advocates to submit personal comments to the FDA urging them to take action against flavored tobacco products like E-cigs and flavored cigars. Needless to say, we are delighted with the results!
This is further proof that personal advocacy, in which you share a story of why an issue is relevant and important to you as an individual is an effective tool that we will need to utilize more in our future advocacy efforts.
Limiting the sales of e-cigarettes is a great first step, but more needs to be done to combat the major health risks associated with e-cigarette use. The 78% increase in high school use and the 48% spike in middle school use, clearly show that these products are highly appealing to our youth and that flavored products need to be banned outright.
We will continue to look for ways to provide input to the FDA and to Congress on how best to combat these disturbing trends; but for now, pat yourself on the back and celebrate the monumental change you helped bring about.
