We want to congratulate the F-M Ambulance service for receiving the American Heart Association's Mission: Lifeline EMS Silver Award. The award recognizes ambulance services for their commitment to improving treatment of patients that suffer from severe heart attacks or STEMI. A STEMI heart attack is a very severe, deadly type of heart event that blocks the blood flow to the heart. Each year, more than 300,000 people experience a STEMI-type heart attack.
The key to survival with this type of heart attack is intervention as soon as possible. The national average time from identifying the problem to opening the blood vessel is 90 minutes, but F-M Ambulance is averaging about 60minutes. Their eventual goal is reduce the amount of time to 45 minutes.
We applaud FM Ambulance Service to their commitment to the system of care in North Dakota, and we recognize their pursuit of excellence as partners in cardiovascular care.
