Emery Miller, Arizona

Emery would not be alive today without lifesaving heart research and that’s why he has become a veteran advocate at such a young age. He was diagnosed with a hole in his heart, arrhythmia and a weak aortic valve shortly after birth. His latest and fifth heart procedure involved replacing the faulty valve.

He is involved in establishing a Youth Advocacy Committee in his hometown of Phoenix, AZ. Other children with heart conditions will join Emery on the local Youth Advocacy Committee to personalize the fight against heart disease. The committee will work with schools, youth organizations and legislators on AHA school-based policy initiatives like CPR, physical activity and nutrition.

Additionally, he represented the AHA at a White House briefing held to provide a better understanding of the issues facing heart disease survivors. His leadership as a You’re The Cure advocate led to his participation in this Community Leader Briefing and he was one of the youngest volunteers to attend.
