Do you want to help Lawrence be healthier?

One of the ways to make sure tobacco products are not being sold to young people under the age of 21, is to first know where tobacco products are being sold. The Lawrence City Commission is looking to update their tobacco policy in the city, by establishing a tobacco retail license. This lets the city know who is selling tobacco and make sure they are not selling to young people.

According to the National Youth Tobacco Survey, 16.5% of middle and high school students under the age of 18 report obtaining e-cigarettes in a vape shop in the past month, and 9.8% from a gas station or convenience store. We need to know who is selling items to help ensure that they aren't selling to underaged people.

Keeping track of this also allows penalties to be placed on the stores selling these dangerous products holding them accountable, instead of punishing underage people. We want to help youth struggling with addiction and not make them criminals.
