Here are a few of the issues we anticipate:
Tobacco Flavor Restrictions – A bill to end the sale of flavored tobacco products in Colorado is anticipated and would be a huge step in reversing the recent dramatic increase in youth vaping in our state. The wide availability of tobacco products in flavors such as mint and menthol, candy and fruit flavors, appeals to youth and has spurred the increase.
School Meals for All – We support making sure all students have access to free school meals regardless of the family’s income, and we will be working with lawmakers on a model for funding school meals. Schools that participate in universal free meals often see increased participation in school meal programs, a reduced administrative burden, and cost-savings in medium and large districts.
Other Appropriations Priorities – We will advocate for the legislature to include in the budget funding for programs and services that address the burden of heart disease and stroke in our state. We will support investments in the health of our residents and in building a healthier state, such as funding focused on access to health care, hypertension and healthy eating.
We hope you can join us as we work together to improve and save lives through smart and effective policy and appropriations. Thank you for being a part of our You’re the Cure network and these efforts!
