Closing the Loop on Pulse Ox Screening

The successful "Go Red for Women Luncheon" Leadership meeting offered a great opportunity for “You're the Cure” volunteer Shari Cantor to discuss with Department of Public Health Commissioner Jewell Mullen the closing of the loop on the Connecticut Pulse Ox Screening campaign.

They addressed the issue of codifying in-state regulations for Pulse Ox tests as the required method used by birthing hospitals when screening for Critical Congenital Heart Disease (CCHD) for all Connecticut newborn babies.Currently, the state mandates newborns be screened for CCHD but the method used is not specified in state statute.

We, at the American Heart Association, are working with Commissioner Mullen to initiate the regulatory process to stipulate Pulse Ox as the required screening test for birthing hospitals.
