The law will go into effect five days after the election results are certified, making California the largest state in the nation to end the sale of flavored tobacco – including menthol cigarettes.

California will now have the nation's strongest protections against Big Tobacco’s business model that markets deadly tobacco products to kids, especially in Black and brown communities.

“California voters had their say, and they decisively rejected Big Tobacco’s attempt to repeal a law that will protect public health and save lives,” said Kathy Rogers, Executive Vice President, American Heart Association, Western States. “We’re grateful for the strong coalition of organizations and volunteer advocates who came together to make this victory possible.”

I want to take a moment and sincerely thank YOU for helping make this happen. Your continued support during the past year helped make today a reality.
