Update on the California State Budget

The legislature has included funding for key programs that support California families in the state budget. We are working to ensure the Governor leaves them in the final budget.

The items we are focused on include:

  • Funding to maintain and expand the Cal Fresh pilot project. This program helps families afford fresh fruits and vegetables. Access to healthy food is an important part of improving long term health including heart health.

  • Funding for early care and education. This funding will help providers struggling with costs to keep their doors open. There is already a shortage of childcare and early education options, but this funding will help keep it from getting worse.

We expect the budget to be finalized soon. We will share an update with you as soon as the Governor decides what he is going to do.
