California Indoor Air - Good News Update

While we wait to see what Governor Newsom does with a very bad bill, AB 374, we want to share some good news!

Governor Newsom signed legislation into law a few weeks ago (SB 626) that strengthens California’s clean indoor air law by making all hotels and motels smoke-free! California led the nation when it adopted its initial ban on indoor smoking over 25 years ago, but many people don’t realize that, due to a loophole, up to 20% of hotel rooms could be smoking rooms. This law will take effect on January 1, 2024.

Thank you for your advocacy on this important issue. Your actions helped to close the gap in the state law and protect guests and employees of hotels and motels from dangerous secondhand smoke exposure. You continue to make a difference and are helping build a healthier California.
