Sudden cardiac arrest survivor Heather Freligh and her dad Derek kicked off our week of learning and advocating by sharing their story in front of the 200+ advocates who were gathered in DC. They set the stage for the importance of passing the HEARTS/Access to AEDs Act and the whole reason we were in the nation’s capitol.

The California delegation, made up of fellow cardiac arrest survivors, including 17-year-old Sofia Montoya, physicians, first responders and dedicated volunteers, the group met with California’s two Senators and thirteen congressional offices during their time in Washington. These meetings led to additional lawmakers signing on to co-sponsor the bills adding their support as we await the bill’s passage out of the House of Representatives in the near future.
