Big things are happening at the Capitol!

The California legislative session is in full swing and we expect it will be a very busy session!  One of our top priorities, passage of Complete Streets legislation, was formally introduced earlier this month.

On January 14th the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association joined Senator Wiener and coalition partners at a press conference to announce the introduction of Senate Bill 127.  This bill  will prioritize the completion of “complete streets” which includes safer and better designed sidewalks, bikeways, and crosswalks on state highways that run through cities.

SB 127 is important because it will help ensure streets are designed for all residents and help create safer, healthier, and more inclusive communities.

Long time AHA volunteer Beatrice Cardenas-Duncan spoke about what this legislation means to her and why she supports it. “I raised my children in San Francisco. The ability to safely walk to and be active on public parks and playgrounds are cherished memories for my family. As a great grandmother, I commend Senator Wiener for introducing this important legislation, which the American Heart Association is pleased to co-sponsor.”

We will be messaging you, our advocates, during the legislation session as this bill progresses and we hope we can count on your support. Please look for our emails and take action when you see them! If you would like to get involved further on the issue please email Jamie Morgan.
