One thing about the current crisis – it is making all of us think of new ways to do things.

And that is certainly true at the American Heart Association. We want everyone to stay safe and healthy.

Over the years many of you have participated in our Heart Walk and Go Red for Women events. This year, a number of our events are going virtual to encourage heart-healthy activities while staying at home! Participants and teams will not physically meet but are invited to participate from their home or get moving in or around the neighborhood.

  • On May 31st, we will hold a virtual Central Maine Heart Walk kick-off at 9 AM on Facebook. The Heart Walk helps educate people about heart health while raising funds for lifesaving research. The Association is currently funding research to help figure out why those with cardiovascular disease, and risk factors such as diabetes and hypertension, are more vulnerable to complications of COVID-19.
  • The Go Red for Women Luncheon will take place virtually on Zoom on June 16th. Join us, dressed in your best red outfit, as we learn more about women’s heart health and honor Crystal Heart awardees, Michael Bourque of MEMIC and Dr. Lucy Liaw of Maine Medical Center Research Institute. The event will include inspirational survivor stories, heart and brain health education, and an exciting live auction!
