Arizona Session Continues and Heart Walkers Take Over Phoenix

In March, both the House and Senate wrapped up their final committee hearings. Any bills that have not been discussed in a committee at this point in the legislative session are effectively considered dead. Now, the focus shifts to voting on bills. Once approved, these bills will be sent to the Governor’s office for either signing or vetoing. As the voting process concludes, lawmakers remain deeply engaged in budget discussions.

We have been actively opposing bills related to vapor directories. Their position is clear: a vapor directory is redundant and does not address the root problem of youth access to tobacco products. While directories may seem like a step in the right direction, they fail to provide a comprehensive solution. I’m pleased to report that the bill proposing a vapor directory has been defeated. However, our work is not done. While we celebrate this victory, we remain vigilant. We must ensure that the defeated bill does not resurface during this legislative session. As we move forward, we are optimistic that this bill will not gain traction again.

On March 23, the Greater Phoenix team hosted their annual Heart Walk event at Wesley Bolin Plaza in Downtown Phoenix. A staggering 25,000 walkers participated, coming together to raise an impressive $1.4 million. We are thrilled about the success of the event and look forward to next year’s Heart Walk! If you missed the Phoenix Heart Walk, please join us in Southern Arizona on May 4 at Reid Park for the Southern Arizona Heart Walk!
