Arizona Lobby Day & Advocacy Update

Advocacy Day at the Capitol
We are excited to announce that we have officially secured our Advocacy Day at the Capitol to be held on January 16, 2025! More information will be coming soon. This year, we will be advocating for several important issues:

  • The need for cardiac emergency response plans in schools
  • Keeping retailers accountable through tobacco retail licensing
  • Introducing a comprehensive tobacco tax to benefit public health
  • Defending against preemption

We hope to see you there!

Survey: The State of Cardiac Emergency Response in Arizona Schools

To better understand the landscape of cardiac emergency response in schools, we are sending out a survey to schools in Arizona. This will help us identify how we can best support them legislatively in responding to cardiac emergencies. We are also collaborating with other organizations to help pass this legislation in the upcoming session. If you know a principal who would like to participate in our survey, or if you know an organization that would like to join our coalition’s efforts, please email Eryn Streeter at [email protected].

Navajo Nation Passes Tobacco Tax Legislation

On Wednesday, October 23, the Navajo Nation passed groundbreaking legislation to increase their combustible tobacco tax by $1.50, making the total tax $2.50 per pack. This is $0.50 higher than Arizona’s combustible tobacco tax and represents a significant achievement for the Navajo Nation. The legislation also established a 22% e-cigarette tax. With these great strides being made by the nation’s largest Native American community, we are continuing to work to see similar progress at the state level for a comprehensive tobacco tax.
