When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it was clear that we all needed a way to access healthcare from the safety and comfort of our homes. Telehealth, seeing a medical provider without going into their office, became a critical fixture in our lives. Being able to have access to medical providers without leaving our homes was lifesaving for so many.

Reliable telehealth improves access to quality health care, and failing to make the COVID-era telehealth waivers permanent will result in a tragic loss of access to care for Medicare beneficiaries. Telehealth and in-person care are now deeply integrated and intertwined in routine health care delivery.
Here are just a few of the ways telehealth is revolutionizing our system:
- Telehealth can be a lifesaver for patients with medical conditions that require frequent visits.
- Telehealth can improve access to quality healthcare for all individuals, especially members of rural and underserved communities.
- Telehealth can increase quality, patient focus, and patient satisfaction.
- In 2020, telehealth services increased 63-fold, from approximately 840,000 in 2019 to 52.7 million.
Before the pandemic, telehealth was mostly a cash-only service out of reach for many patients in this country. The pandemic drove patients and medical providers to use telehealth at an incredible pace.
