Did you know worldwide, physical inactivity (35%) is now more prevalent than smoking (26%) and is responsible for more deaths? Physical activity is a huge part of a healthy life style, to highlight this the American Heart Association is celebrating April as physical activity month. All month long we are encouraging Americans to get out and Move More, Live More!
Research has shown that walking at least 30 minutes a day can help reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke. As you go about your daily routine look for ways to increase your physical activity like a lunch time walk or a quick bike ride in the park there are no wrong answers just get out and move more!
Unfortunately, some areas do not have the ability to safely move about their neighborhood lacking the proper infrastructure features like cross walks or bike lanes. This is why the American Heart Association supports polices like Complete Streets in your neighborhood to make it easier and safer for you to get around your community. Living in walkable neighborhoods encourages physical activity and helps residents move more all year long.
