In collaboration with the NYS Public Health Association, The Coalition for Tobacco-Free Kids and the American Lung Association, more than 40 advocates descended on Albany to educate lawmakers on the benefits of Tobacco 21- a bill that would increase the legal sales age of tobacco products from 18 to 21 years old.
The message to lawmakers was clear-- With more than 65% of NYS already covered by local Tobacco 21 laws, now is the time for NYS to step up and protect our youth from deadly tobacco addictions by passing this legislation. More than 45 legislators were met with throughout the day and our advocates were able to secure new support and new co-sponsors of the bill! This shows why attending lobby days are so critical to getting important legislation passed!
Thank you to everyone who attended on May 1! For those who couldn’t be there, don’t worry. There will plenty more to do over the next 5 weeks to get this bill through to the finish line before the end of the legislative session in June.
