Tobacco use remains a leading cause of preventable death in Alaska, claiming more than 600 lives each year.  Since 2011, there has been a huge increase in e-cigarette use among middle and high school students causing the U.S. Surgeon General to call it an “epidemic” for our youth. Research tells us that 95% of smokers start by the age of 21. This ordinance will help keep tobacco products out of our middle and high schools and away from younger kids.

Message the city assembly in support of raising the age!
