On behalf of your American Heart Association Michigan Advocacy team, we hope you and your loved ones are doing well and staying healthy. We are grateful for the millions of people, like you, who have worked with us relentlessly to build healthier communities for everyone, everywhere. As you know, we have been working alongside our amazing Michigan You're the Cure advocates to create a tobacco-free future for our youth. We also joined the newly-formed Keep Michigan Kids Tobacco Free Alliance. The Alliance is comprised of more than 50 public health and community organizations ready to work with lawmakers to pass comprehensive legislation proven to protect our youth. Tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes, continue to take a significant toll on our residents.

We are working on a bipartisan package of bills addressing vaping: Senate Bill 781 – Senate Bill 786, introduced on February 5th. The bills received two hearings in the Senate Regulatory Reform Committee and are awaiting a vote in that committee. The next step in the process after the Senate committee vote is a vote before the full Senate, then to the House. We will be in touch as soon as we have more news to share

We also wanted to take this opportunity to provide resources on how to minimize risk when out and about, stay active, eat healthy and be well when at home. We also hope you'll take a moment to watch Dr. Eduardo Sanchez, Chief Medical Officer for Prevention at the American Heart Association, answer questions many of you may have about COVID-19, particularly for high risk CVD patients.

Please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any questions or need additional information. Stay safe, and thank you for all you do as an incredible American Heart Association You're the Cure advocate!

With Heart,

Bridgett Melinn and Melissa Brown
