At Advocacy’s You’re the Cure booth, staff member Poqueen Rivera and myself started the day by training nine advocacy volunteers on our “ask” for the day and walk logistics. Our advocacy volunteers canvassed the event to collect petition card signatures from Heart walk participants. The cards ask the signer's representatives to support state policies and funding designed to help to fight back against heart disease in women. Several of our volunteers are police officers from Kirtland Air Force Base and they expressed interest in continuing their involvement with the American Heart Association. Among the volunteers were State Advocacy Committee members Ashley and Gina Fresquez. While advocacy volunteers canvassed the event, Poqueen and I staffed the table where we answered questions about our grassroots work and campaigns.
It was a fun and successful event, with almost 400 petition cards collected and several potential Grassroots Action Team members identified. A giant THANK YOU to our amazing Advocacy Volunteers for their hard work and dedication.
