RSVP Today: Alabama Lobby Day, April 10

Our Alabama lobby day is quickly approaching! It's not too late to plan to join us and your fellow advocates for an exciting day meeting with lawmakers, in an effort to build a healthier Alabama. Sign up now to join us in Montgomery on April 10th!

Your voice can make a big impact, as we ask lawmakers to support the following issues.

Acute Cardiac Events in Schools 🏫
Cardiac arrest can come on suddenly and is often fatal if appropriate steps aren’t taken immediately. To enhance the safety of students, school staff, and visitors, Representative Ed Oliver filed House Bill 290, which will require public or nonpublic K-12 schools to have a cardiac emergency response plan in place. This will enable a trained lay-responder team to take action in the event of cardiac arrest, whether it's during the school day, during after-school activities, or at school athletic events.

Access to Healthy Foods 🥦
We are asking lawmakers to provide $1 million dollars for the Double Up Food Bucks Program. For every dollar a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipient spends with their EBT card, the Double Up Food Bucks program matches it dollar for dollar up to $10 per day to be spent on Alabama grown produce. Studies show that when consumers are incentivized, the purchase and consumption of healthy foods increases, which is linked with improving health outcomes.

Closing the Coverage Gap đź©ş
More than 300,000 Alabamians are caught in the health care coverage gap, either earning too little to qualify for Medicaid or too much to qualify for subsidized premiums through the marketplace. This makes it hard to visit doctors and specialists, fill prescriptions, or even seek medical attention in the event of an emergency. We are urging legislators to improve access to health care.
