AHA Visits Afton to Talk Healthy Hearts!

On Thursday, May 10, The American Heart Association – Wyoming's You’re the Cure team headed to Afton for the Star Valley Community Health and Safety Expo. Alongside more than 40 other health vendors at the Afton Civic Center, they worked hard to educate the community on the dangers of tobacco and encourage residents to take action by getting involved in efforts to increase Wyoming’s tobacco tax by $1.00 during the next legislative session.

Wyoming has not increased the tax on tobacco for over 15 years and it remains on the lowest in the country. Meanwhile, Wyoming has one of the highest smoking rates in the country, especially among pregnant women. A tax increase of $1.00 or more will prevent youth from starting to smoke, lower health care costs associated with smoking, and reduce the number of smokers in the state.
