AHA Connecticut Participates in The Rally for Medical Research Lobby Day

Connecticut Advocacy participated in the 2013 Rally for Medical Research lobby day. Nearly 300 people form 40 states convened on Capitol Hill meeting with elected officials and their staff in 250 Congressional offices to urge congress to invest in the National Institute of Health (NIH) for the health and economic security of our nation.

Connecticut’s own and AHA Survivor, Kevin Ward, met with his Congresswoman, Rosa DeLauro, to advocate no more cuts to NIH, which discourages young talented individuals from pursuing careers in science, and driving researchers out the filed.

Rosa, as she is known in the 3rd congressional district, sits on the powerful Ways and Means Committee and is the ranking member on the Health and Human Services Appropriations committee, which oversees NIH funding.

Kevin urged Rosa to convince her congressional colleagues to support NIH funding that has invested in federal research addressing heart disease, stroke, and other chronic diseases preventing up to 1.35 million deaths annually.
