Advocates have the power

We’ve all come to have an interest in heart health in different ways. Some of us might be in the medical field, some may have experienced a heart condition themselves or know someone who has. Whatever the reason, we all see that its important to think about heart health and to act on it in our own lives. We are passionate to work towards a world with less cardiovascular disease and stroke. To live in a world where all people have access to education, care, and resources to be heart healthy. If you’ve been an AHA supporter for a while, you know this is our mission and why we strive to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. As a You’re the Cure Advocate, we know you believe in this too and we thank you.

If you’ve taken action with the AHA before, you know how good it makes you feel when you know you took that moment in your day to speak up for something you believe in and hopefully make a little ripple of change in the world.  That rush of making your voice heard by people who have the power to change laws and policies. If you haven’t tried it before- you really should- I promise it will make your day! It helps the issues you care about too. I know it seems like your call or email to a legislator might not make a difference, but the more people take action- the better the response we get and the more we can make real change in heart health issues.

See- here’s the trick to advocacy- YOU have the power. We all do. Every time we make our voices heard on issues important to us. Every time we speak up about the world we live in, we are using the power we are given to make a difference. In this life, its understandable many people can feel powerless to what is happening. Health problems by their nature can make you feel physically and then mentally powerless. In advocacy, the power lies with you. Every call, every email, every advocacy event you attend is another person combining their immense power with others. When it comes to heart health advocacy, the change truly can be life changing!

We call on you to turn your passion for a world with healthier hearts into action that can truly change so much for the people in your state and community. How can you do it? Take action with our action alerts, share AHA issues with your friends online and offline, and soon we’ll be inviting you to join our statewide advocacy chats so you can learn about local advocacy efforts and how you can take part. You don’t have to have a degree in political science or all the time in the world to make changes. Just give what you can and you’ll get so much more! As Arthur Ashe said “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” Thank you for being a relentless force for good with us!
