What brought you to be an advocate for the American Heart Association?
Several years ago Altru was very interested in working with AHA the development of the STEMI protocol for ND. As the Regional Services manager, it was an opportunity to greatly improved care across our regional network with the Critical Access Hospitals.
What issues or policies are you most passionate about and why?
Access to care through telemedicine, especially in the rural areas. ND is a great place to live and those living in the more rural areas deserve the same health care opportunities as the larger cities. With technology like our electronic medical records and Telemedicine, that is very possible today and should be in place.
What is your favorite advocacy memory or experience so far and what made it great?
Working with the regional nurses at the small hospitals. Listening to their stories and understanding their needs to provide care with limited resources. They are so passionate, dedicated and brave to provide the best care. AHA helps them do that, with protocols, communication, education and support.
What is your favorite way to be active?
Walking my dogs, yoga classes.
What is your favorite fruit or vegetable and any tips for how you serve or prepare it?
Garden veggies - Roasted! Love the flavor it brings out – with a little olive oil and salt. Yum!
