For Catalina, advocating for the American Heart Association is important because, "It is amazing how preventable so many of the health issues the community confronts are, and I feel as though the more I can advocate the more I can spread the word and mission of the AHA and the more lives I can help save. Plus I like the challenge and the learning opportunity of being involved and really exercising the power of my voice."
We asked Catalina a few questions, so you can get to know her better!
What's your current occupation? Seton Health Plan-Membership Engagement and Outreach Coordinator.
Where are you from? This month marks my 10 year anniversary living in Austin. The longest I have lived anywhere.
What is your favorite movie? Cansada de Besar Sapos.
What are a few of your favorite hobbies? Soccer, running, and eating.
Do you have any pets? Moxie, a 9 year-old Siberian Husky.
Who is your role model? I can't think of just one person- I try to surround myself with people that inspire me everyday.
What is your greatest achievement? I helped start the first ever New York Youth Legislative Session with another nonprofit I support. This year it celebrated its 11th year in existence.
Who are two celebrities or historical figures you would want to have dinner with and why? Barack Obama and Robin Roberts. They are both amazing individuals that are intelligent, caring, optimistic and inspirational. (Plus I hope Barack secretly brings Michelle so I can meet both of them!)
What is your favorite AHA event? Heart Walk- and specifically 2012 and last year's. I walked the 2012 one with my daddy, a heart attack survivor and that made it very special. Last year I placed 3rd overall female and it meant a lot to dedicate that to my daddy. I love seeing everyone exercising and enjoying the moment for such a great cause.
Catalina sees the value and importance of leading a healthier lifestyle, in order to prevent illness. She appreciates the hard work the American Heart Association does, and participates with greater passion given that her Daddy is a heart attack survivor. We are grateful to have Catalina as our newest Austin Grassroots Action Team Chair!
