University of Vermont Professor Rachel Johnson is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable advocate in our fight to deter Vermonters from drinking sugar sweetened beverages (SSB). Rachel – who chairs the Vermont AHA Advocacy Committee as well as the AHA’s National Nutrition Committee -- has testified repeatedly in support of an SSB tax to discourage consumption of the product and help fund obesity prevention programs in Vermont. Key in her arsenal is the health impacts of SSBs particular on coronary artery disease and diabetes.
