Advocacy - E-cigarettes and menthol/flavored tobacco ordinances

On Monday, Dr. Karen Larimer, incoming Board President for the Chicago Board of Directors and Illinois State Advocacy Committee member, testified at Chicago City Council hearing. She spoke about the need for e-cigarettes to be regulated like regular cigarettes and she advocated to forbid the sale of flavored tobacco within 500 feet of a school.

Outcome: Flavored tobacco ordinance passed, while the e-cigarette ordinance was derailed. This Sun-Times article outlines many of the arguments made by legislators opposing passage during the hearing.
