On January 31, 2023 Governor Little joined American Heart Association volunteers and staff to sign a proclamation officially marking February 2023 as Idaho Heart Month! This act highlights the importance of efforts to reduce risk and support research, policy and programs that will help reduce cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease.
Prior to the proclamation signing state lawmakers visited with Heart Association youth advocates, volunteers and staff to discuss the importance of funding tobacco prevention and education programs. Youth advocates created maps demonstrating how close tobacco and vape retailers are to places like schools, parks and other community locations where youth spend time, it was a powerful visual for lawmakers. Maps were created to highlight communities across the state - Couer d'Alene, Meridian and Pocatello. It was a great opportunity to advocates to engage with legislators in the early weeks of the 2023 session, especially important this year because of the large number of first time legislators.
