March 13th was a great day at the Capitol in Salem! With a big focus on nutrition, over 30 volunteers came together to discuss three important pieces of legislation; SB 727 - fresh fruit and vegetable incentives for families on food assistance, HB 2626/HB 2639 - making important changes to the WIC food assistance program and HB 2270 - raising the tobacco and e-cigarette tax.
We were joined also joined by youth from the Providence Rebels, a teen-led group that encourages students to explore health issues and career paths while gaining leadership skills. In addition to the legislative visits, the Oregon Lobby Day also featured a health fair in the rotunda where they highlighted CPR, the amount of sugar in various beverages, and the dangers of e-cigarettes.
We greatly appreciate all of the volunteers who joined us at the Capitol! If you couldn't join us but would like to support these issues please keep an eye out for emails on these pieces of legislation as we enter the second half of the 2019 legislative session.
