Flavors Hook Kids Kickoff
On Thursday, September 11th, the Flavors Hook Kids Washington Campaign joined elected and community leaders, public health experts, and education advocates to formally launch a statewide campaign to end the sale of all flavored tobacco products in Washington State.
Nearly 10,000 Washington kids will try tobacco products for the first time every year and nearly 90 percent will start with a flavored product. The tobacco industry relentlessly and specifically targets you with candy-like flavors such as cotton candy, fruity pebbles, and watermelon.
Dr. Ruchi Kapoor, M.D., PhD, and Board Member of the American Heart Association Puget Sound and Advocacy Committee, joined us to talk about the lifelong consequences of smoking. Dr. Kapoor also submitted a LTE to the Seattle Times that was published recently: Flavored tobacco: ‘A lifetime of addiction’ | The Seattle Times

Seattle Heart & Stroke Walk
On Saturday, September 21st, Washingtonians from all backgrounds joined together for the Seattle Heart and Stroke Walk. This is the American Heart Association's premier event for raising funds to save lives from this country's No. 1 and No. 5 killers - heart disease and stroke.
Thank you so much to those who were able to join us and write postcards to your legislators! And especially those kiddos who stopped by the color a lunch tray to show support for the expansion of Healthy School Meals in Washington. If you were not able to attend, but you still want to contact your legislator, you can do so through You're the Cure.
