Each year, the American Heart Association hosts a legislative breakfast and lobby day at our state Capitol in Hartford. It is an opportunity for you to see what our advocacy team does, and what we advocate for. More importantly, it gives YOU the opportunity to have YOUR voice heard, with your own legislators, as an advocate-constituent. Remember, your legislators were elected to serve YOU, your neighbors, and the town that you live in. They will be excited to have constituents visit them, and I assure you, will be extremely friendly and easy to speak with. Finally, our lobby day is an opportunity to increase the visibility of our proud association, showing our legislators that we are a group passionate about the heart-health of every CT resident!
The 2018 event has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 21st, from 8 AM to noon, at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. There will be two main components to this event. The first is our breakfast and advocacy training. We will use this opportunity to give you information folders for your legislators, to give you some information about the legislative process, the building, and will review the issues that we will be discussing with our legislators. The second component of this event will be short meetings with your legislators. Myself and other staff from our advocacy team will be there to walk you to your meeting, to answer questions, and will attend as many of these meetings with you as possible.
