2013 Idaho Youth Lobby Day

Wow! As a Heart Disease Survivor and Advocate for Heart and Stroke Disease Awareness Programs and Change for better health in our country, I was extremely pleased to participate in the Idaho Youth Lobby Day at the State Capitol Monday January 14, 2013.  I was a Team Leader for a "Rock Star Team" - a hopeful group of young high school students willing to help the cause for the American Heart Association.  We met with legislators and developed awareness and interest for obesity prevention through reinstating physical education credit requirements for high school graduates, and instilling good habits in K-12 for a smarter more successful outcome through health. Also, we presented needs for tobacco funding regarding issues of prevention and cessation, and better healthcare access for rural communities in this great state of Idaho.

I was informed and excited to be more involved and help promote a change in heart disease when it comes to addressing important issues in awareness and prevention.  Each of our meetings with legislators warmed my heart more and touched the closeness I  have in my life to struggles with heart disease.

I believe continued education of what steps are needed and how things need to change will help  those who "Care" make a difference.  Setting clear and concise goals will make a Change.

I am in!
Wishing all a Happy Heart!
